Job Title: Systems Engineer, East Coast


Reports to:
 President

Department: Sales

Location: Buffalo, NY or remotely out of the East Coast

Date: November 12th, 2019

The Systems Engineer position is responsible for handling various aspects of pre-sales technical support.  This is a key position that will contribute to revenue growth for the company, as well as contributing to the success of our existing customer base. This opportunity provides the ability to interact across multiple points of the customer engagement model.

 

Responsibilities

 

Pre-Sales Technical Support

  • Pre-sales Support: may require up to 50% travel in the Eastern US and Canada
    • Work with customers to determine business requirements, recommend network designs, deliver solutions, & field customer technical questions
    • Convey unique differentiation of Garland solutions to customers 
    • Conduct collaborative whiteboard design sessions and produce solution diagrams 
    • Translate designs into a bill of materials 
  • Assist with exploratory calls for customers
  • Conduct product demo calls to explain configuration of Garland product(s)
  • Engage with channel partners to enable greater understanding and better delivery of Garland solutions
  • Work with tech partners to validate joint solutions and establish Garland as the visibility solution of choice for business opportunities and within reference architectures
  • Provide support at trade shows

Proof of Concept (POCs)

  • Evaluate, test, document, and demo POCs prior to customer purchase
  • Determine all requirements necessary to achieve technical closure of the sales process

Interaction with Technical Business Partners and Channel Resale Partners

  • Collaborate with partners to develop compelling use cases for specific sales opportunities

Technical Support for Customers

  • Technical phone/email support and troubleshooting assistance
  • Use online help desk and case management tools to manage & track all technical support issues

Projects

  • Collaborate with marketing on training materials
  • Presentations for customer visits, technical forums, events and workshops
  • Contributing author of technical and industry related topics for blogs, social media, technical forums and white papers

 

Skill Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Hands on experience configuring Routing and Switching equipment
  • 5+ years’ experience in computer networking and administration
  • Thorough understanding of L2-4 networking data standards and popular L7 protocols
  • Familiarity with Network Packet Broker solutions
  • Understanding of commonly used network security, monitoring, and performance tools
  • Experience with multiple network connectivity standards, including copper and fiber
  • Know-how in Network Design and Network Infrastructure Design
  • Familiarity with cloud (AWS, Azure, etc) and virtualization platforms and designs preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Operating Systems
  • Results oriented attitude
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Capability to collaborate effectively by giving and receiving feedback – willingness to seek help and feedback for performance improvement and to provide positive and constructive feedback to assist others
  • Team player with ability to work under pressure
  • Cisco certifications preferred

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
