EdgeLens® Inline Security Packet Broker
1G/10G/40G | Inline Integrated Bypass | Failsafe | Manage Both Inline and Out-of-band Tools
A Bypass TAP, also referred to as a 'bypass switch', provides the ability to manage the availability and reliability of your inline tool (IPS, WAF, firewalls) any time without network downtime or impacting business availability for maintenance or upgrades. A critical component to IT security strategies.
Garland’s innovative EdgeLens® is a bypass TAP, network packet broker hybrid, purpose-built to give you the power of a bypass TAP to manage the availability of inline tools, instrument high availability (HA) deployments, and tool chaining. As well as network TAP packet visibility for out-of-band monitoring tools like threat detection, storage and performance monitoring with packet broker functionality like traffic aggregation, filtering and load balancing.
Inline Security Packet Brokers like the EdgeLens "Inline lifecycle management" allows you to sandbox new tool deployments, manage updates, install patches, perform maintenance or troubleshooting and validate out-of-band, without impacting the network.
Key Features
- Inline Bypass — sandbox, deploy, troubleshoot and replace active inline tools without taking the network link down.
- Network Failsafe - Garland failsafe technology recognizes power outages and automatically closes the relay circuitry in less than eight milliseconds, reconnecting the two network devices connected to ports A and B.
- Heartbeat Health Check - Configurable heartbeat packets monitor the health of the inline appliance. If the tools availability changes, the Bypass TAP will automatically ‘bypass’ the tool, or failover to a redundant solution, keeping your network up while you resolve the issue.
- Network TAP visibility for out-of-band monitoring
- Supports filtering, aggregation, load balancing and regeneration
- Aggregate traffic to a single or multiple tools (1:1, 1:N, N:1, N:N)
- Before and After: Historical Look-back
- High Availability (HA): Active/Standby and Active/Active

Manage multiple tools
The EdgeLens allows you to TAP four links and provide bypass management to inline tools, High Availability (HA) deployments for that inline tool, as well as additional packet broker ports for out-of-band monitoring and storage with tapped traffic visibility.
Before and After: Historical look-back
The EdgeLens allows you to send out-of-band tapped traffic visibility to storage and forensic tools before and after your inline tool, to analyze packet data before and after your inline device to ensure optimal tool performance to validate any updates or troubleshoot why threats weren’t blocked.
Tool chaining
The EdgeLens allows you to chain multiple inline tools from one tapped link, allowing you to utilize decrypt and encrypt tools to process data from your active inline tools before the traffic is reintroduced to the network.
